FAQ
What is bilateral audio?
Bilateral audio alternates sound between the left and right ears. This forces communication between the brain's hemispheres.
Why use bilateral audio?
Many people find that bilateral audio helps with focus, relaxation, and emotional processing. It can be used in therapeutic settings like EMDR, while you are working, studying, or relaxing.
Is this EMDR?
No. Bilateral Beats is an audio processing tool that creates alternating left-right playback. It is not therapy and not a medical device.
Is this a music streaming service?
No. Bilateral Beats is not a music streaming service. You upload tracks that you own, preview the bilateral track, then download it to play on your own device. Tracks expire 30 days after upload.
Can I upload copyrighted music?
You may only upload music that you own or have the rights to use. Bilateral Beats does not claim any rights to your music, but you are responsible for complying with copyright laws.
Does it work on any song?
Most songs work well. Very complex or beatless audio may produce less consistent switching.
Why does my bilateral track sound different?
In order to create clear left-right alternation, we have to turn stereo tracks into mono, which can cause a loss of some stereo effects and change the overall sound. This is expected.
Why does web import cost more than file upload?
Web imports require downloading the audio from the source (using bandwidth and processing), then bilateralizing it. We charge 2x the track duration to cover both steps: once for download/conversion, once for bilateral processing. File uploads only charge for processing since you're providing the file directly.
What file types are supported?
We support MP3, FLAC, AAC, and M4A files for upload. MP3 and FLAC are returned in the same format. AAC/M4A files are converted to FLAC (AAC/M4A is patented).
Where can I get music to bilateralize?
Easy option:
Just paste a URL! We support SoundCloud, Bandcamp, Vimeo, Instagram, and hundreds of other sites.
Note: Web imports cost 2x track duration (download + processing).
Upload files:
If you have audio files, you can upload them directly and only pay for bilateral processing. Purchase and download from:
Some streaming platforms may also allow you to purchase and download some tracks, such as iTunes and Amazon Music.
How long does processing take?
Processing time varies based on track length and server load, but most tracks are ready within a few minutes.
Do I need headphones?
For the intended left-right effect, yes — stereo headphones or a stereo speaker setup are recommended.
Where does the money go?
Most of the revenue goes to cover server hosting costs. Some goes towards development and maintenance. Any other profits go towards the research and development of BioHarmonic Architecture.
